The Seed Catalog Arrives

by Anne Campbell

Outside, the winds of March blow bitterly;
The winter is not over, though I yearn
For daffodils to trip across the lea
And violets to breathe of spring's return.

Idly I turn the pages of this book -
Here delphiniums are bravely blue;
Upon pink Canterbury bells I look
And on the lily of the valley too.

I turn a page and winter fades away
Beneath the glory of a pictured rose.
The skies of March are overcast and gray,
But here beneath my gaze a garden grows.
