New Life! old apron becomes a dreamy bag

She dreamed it!

"I literally woke up one morning with the plan for this bag" said Jessica on her thimble+bobbin blog.

The vintage apron was a seller-to-seller trade on Etsy from our Edge of the Wildwood vintage inventory. Jessica wanted to make a bag for her Mom for Christmas, using the apron and some handbag handles from her fabric store.

With only a few days until Christmas....the 'plan' dream happened to Jessica and she was able to work out a beautiful reconstruct. The "Gracious Me" apron was fashioned into a sweet, functional handbag.

Jessica has her own successful vintage shop on Etsy called PEPPER VINTAGE

special sneak preview Laiska Lodge

I've been hired to create a custom woodburned sign for a rustic residence in Pennsylvannia! I have a wonderful opportunity here to share some of the details of the project, and give my customer a glimpse into the signwork that will from this day be called "Laiska Lodge".

'Laiska' is a Finnish word for lazy; and 'Lodge' is where this laid back family likes to wile away the hours

A large oval signboard was selected (16" x 10.5") made from basswood. The crosscut slab still has the bark intact and provides an ideal surface for the burning. The sign is intended to be posted outdoors at the end of a driveway, so a double coating of clear coat resin will be applied to seal the piece and protect it from the elements.

Every detail of the design has been carefully planned by my buyer: the lettering style and placement, and the relationship to the artwork! The recliner will replicate a favorite easy chair from a cabin that once sat on the property - and will be prominently featured on the sign.

As the sign develops, I'll be posting more photos and notes that follow the LAISKA LODGE signwork to completion - so come back and visit my blog often in the next few weeks!

*Merry Christmas to Larry*

Yule Log for my blog

I've been 'stoked' since I found the Yule Log on my Comcast On-Demand holiday selections...

Yes, I probably play it a little too much. and this yuletube video is a great online version of the experience!

Let it warm your heart and spark up your Christmas spirit.

peace and goodwill

Christmas is not a time or a season but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas. If we think on these things, there will be born in us a Saviour and over us will shine a star sending its gleam of hope to the world.

the Thanksgiving Stranger

Just as my family was finishing up our holiday feast, there came a knock at the door. We weren't expecting anyone. The stranger had run out of petrol right in front of my parent's house. We grabbed a container and Gary took him to a nearby gas station. Within a few minutes, the crises was over and we asked ourselves

"How did this guy find a shirt that exactly matched the aqua color of his car?"

You never know who will need your help, or when they'll need it.

Storyteller - The Luna Expedition of 1559

Located at Pensacola's scenic port this bronze statue of it's founder, DeLuna rightfully faces the land with his back to the bay.

It seems that even though the original Spanish settlement failed, Pensacola was well established before Jamestown or St. Augustine.

What-do-ya-know? The Luna Expedition landed on Pensacola on my birthday (August 14) in the year 1559

The beautiful setting for this historic marker and all it's engraved stones makes visitors feel a part of the history. The nearby marina and working docks on the port of Pensacola provides a background of sounds and reflected light.

Storyteller is an ongoing series that brings you the story behind historical markers. Whenever I come across an interesting roadside or monument marker I take a few photos and post the Storyteller in my blog.
